My New Origami Book for Usborne Books

Origami Book by Anni Betts, cover

I’m excited to share with you a project that’s been a little while in the making and is now all finished: a book of origami papers illustrated by me and published by UK publisher Usborne Books! I received my samples the other day and I couldn’t be happier with the final product.

For me, getting to draw lots of colorful patterns is a dream project, and the art directors at Usborne, Hannah Ahmed and Jenny Hilborne, were so lovely and easy to work with. It was a win-win! I also happen to think folding origami is fun, and love the idea of people out there folding lots of shapes with my patterns. All in all I created 28 patterns, in several color ways each. It was a lot of work, but playing with colors and patterns hardly feels like work!

The book will be available in August, but for now, here are some sneak peeks. First, I can’t resist showing you the spine, with my name on it!

Here’s what the inside cover looks like — it folds out and shows you how to fold five different origami shapes.

And here are some shots of the pattern pages. Each page tears out of the book easily, and has a solid color on the back that coordinates with the colors in the pattern.

Lastly, below is a little selection of some of the other patterns in the book. I created a mix of abstract patterns and more representative ones, so there’s something for everyone. I also worked with one big master color palette for the whole book, so if you created a whole menagerie of origami animals, they would all have a little something in common.

I’m looking forward to this book hitting the stands and internet shops, and will update you when it does. Thanks for reading!

How cool is this! I’m an Usborne Books and More sales consultant and I LOVE recommending this book to folks. My mother-in-law, Marcia Growdon, just told me you were the artist who made it! How incredible! Congratulations!
